As you are waking up this morning eating breakfast in the future I hope these next few pics might kick start your metabolism. These haven’t been all today, just some random ones over the last week.
First stop is Courier’s Coffee. Some people might term this ‘hipster’ (I hate that term by the way) but they are passionate about their wares. Patrons are the kind of people that I imagine would have the periodic table tattooed on their torso and grow kale in their backyard. I was front and centre next to the turntable. As there was no Captain Beefheart in the collection I settled on De La Soul. Add a chocolate chip cookie (Americans are yet to grasp the ‘biscuit’) and let the good times begin.

There is the old Homer Simpson line “no good story ever started with ‘we went out for a salad'”. I wanted to prove it wrong. Saladworld is a world where sliced vegetables fall from the sky and is inhabited by Amazonian women. No, it’s a salad bar where everything is done by weight ($6.50 per pound). Think of any vegetable or fruit you can imagine, sushi, hot dumplings, stews, curries, nuts, noodles…
it’s run by an Asian couple who know their stuff. Open just for a couple of hours and when it has been eaten, the doors shut.

Bluestar Doughnuts is the chief competition to Voodoo. Apparently Voodoo is for the tourists and Bluestar is for the true Portlanders. I think Voodoo was better but chose a Carrot Cake Doughnut.

If you look closely they have Peanut Butter dusted ones, Maple Bacon etc. I’m hindsight probably made the wrong choice.
And finally Boxer Ramen. A pokey little noodle joint with a heap of atmosphere. I chose mushroom and it comes with a poached egg on top. Tasty.
